DAY 1 : UK - Bari - Bisceglie area.

Fly to Bari and after meeting your tour representative at Bari Airport, transfer to your hotel in the Bisceglie area on Italy's Adriatic coast for two nights. Relax over dinner at your hotel this evening. Includes Dinner

DAY 2 : Bisceglie area - Alberobello - Bari - Bisceglie area.

After breakfast, travel by air-conditioned coach to the picturesque town of Alberobello, a UNESCO World Heritage site, known for its quaint 'trulli' houses. These whitewashed cottages line Alberobello's streets and are topped with conical roofs. Feast your eyes on the cottages as you stroll and perhaps step inside one to see its domed interior. Next, continue to the university city of Bari, Puglia's capital, to explore its intriguing old town. Hear how Bari was a thriving port in pre-Roman times and one-time capital of Byzantine Italy. Absorb the seaside atmosphere and admire the Norman castle and Basilica of San Nicola, home to the remains of St Nicholas, the saint inextricably linked with our vision of Father Christmas. Pause to see the basilica's stunning 12th century altar canopy before returning to your hotel. Includes Breakfast, Dinner

DAY 3 : Bisceglie area - Benevento - Salerno - Paestum area.

Check out and head inland to historic Benevento, nestled in the Apennine Mountains. See the famous Arch of Trajan, one of the world's best-preserved Roman triumphal arches, and 2nd century Roman theatre, and visit the UNESCO listed Church of Santa Sofia. Head inside to view the arches, columns and frescoes of the star-shaped church and listen spellbound as your guide recounts the medieval tales of witches and sorcery that once surrounded Benevento. Continue to the coastal city of Salerno for a tour of its medieval old town. Walk along the main Via dei Mercanti past palaces and churches, and visit 11th century St Matthew cathedral, a stunning example of Norman architecture known for its Romanesque bell tower, atrium and mosaics. DAY 4 : Paestum area - Parghelia area.

Today, head to the archaeological site of Paestum, where the relics of a once flourishing Greek city stand on the Piana del Sele plain, the original home of Italy's beloved buffalo mozzarella cheese. Rewind 2,600 years as you inspect Paestum's three well-preserved Doric temples, forum, houses and city walls as your guide unravels the history of the site. Continue to your hotel in the Parghelia/Tropea area of Calabria - the southern province that occupies Italy's 'toe' - and check in for two nights. Includes Breakfast, Dinner

DAY 5 : Parghelia area - Capo Vaticano - Vibo Valentia - Pizzo - Parghelia area.

Enjoy a scenic drive around Calabria's hilly landscapes and coastline passing crystal clear bays, seaside towns and lush highlands. Call at Tropea, a pretty cliffside town dubbed the 'Pearl of Calabria', and visit the Cathedral of Santa Maria dell'Isola on a headland above the sea. Take in the splendid views from here and then visit the bustling town of Vibo Valentia. See the walls that once protected Vibo's ancient Greek colony of Hipponion, and visit Capo Vaticano, a rocky promontory of cliffs and secluded bays. Finish at the fishing town of Pizzo where you can sample its fabled 'tartufo' - a cocoa-covered ice cream dessert with a molten chocolate centre. Includes Breakfast, Dinner

DAY 6 : Parghelia area - Aeolian Islands or Sicily - Parghelia area.

Enjoy a free day to relax or explore independently or choose to join one of two optional excursions. Perhaps ride a boat to the gorgeous Aeolian Islands, a group of volcanic islets including Lipari, Vulcano and Stromboli, watching for dolphins in the waters along the way. Alternatively, cruise to Sicily to visit the vibrant clifftop town of Taormina, famous for its Greco-Roman theatre overlooking Mt Etna. Includes Breakfast, Dinner

DAY 7 : Parghelia area - Matera - Bisceglie area.

After breakfast, visit the historic town of Matera in Italy's Basilicata region to discover its ancient 'sassi' district of cave dwellings. Carved from soft rock 9,000 years ago, the UNESCO-listed caves were inhabited until the mid-1900s. Wander around the cave district, and see how some caves are now re-inhabited and used as shops and restaurants. Later, drive through Basilicata's rolling countryside to your Bisceglie hotel. DAY 8 : Bisceglie area - UK.

Transfer to Bari Airport for your return flight to the UK. Includes Breakfast
