DAY 1 : UK - Povoa de Varzim.

Fly to Oporto where you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel in Povoa de Varzim for the next seven nights. The rest of the day is at leisure. Includes Dinner

DAY 2 : Povoa de Varzim - Oporto.

Today you have a full day of sightseeing to experience the delilghts of medieval Oporto. The city's main attractions, aside from the stunning Douro River and port wine houses, can be found in the Ribeiro district. These include the Gothic church of Igreja de Sao Francisco, the stunning Palacio da Bolsa and also the Caso do Infante or House of the Prince. You'll also get the chance to get close to the river on the promenade where you'll see the traditional boats (Barcos rabelos) which were once used to transport the famous port. Oporto Cathedral, set atop the hillside, is a magnificent 12th century fortress-like structure which overlooks the square and is well worth a visit. You'll have some free time to wander at your own pace before returning to your hotel. Includes Breakfast, Dinner

DAY 3 : Povoa de Varzim.

Today you can relax and discover the region at your own pace or you can take the optional full day excursion for some wine tasting in the heart of Regua, Douro Valley. Includes Breakfast, Dinner

DAY 4 : Povoa de Varzim.

You can either explore your surroundings, perhaps enjoying the beach, taking a leisurely lunch on the waterfront or exploring the old fisherman's district, or, alternatively take an optional half day tour of Bercelos. This walled medieval market town rests on a plateau above the River Cavado and is surrounded by stunningly beautiful scenery, a pleasant introduction to the region. Includes Breakfast, Dinner

DAY 5 : Povoa de Varzim - Viana do Castelo - Valenca do Minho.

Viana do Castelo, a picturesque port with a fine square and mountaintop basilica, is where you start today's journey. Here you'll find an array of stunning churches including the Sé Cathedral of Viana do Castelo, built in the distinct Portuguese style. Next stop, and on the border with Spain is the ancient city of Valenca do Minho. Enjoy some time here before heading to your final stop, Caminha. A city full of significant historical buildings illustrating the transition from Gothic to Renaissance in Portugal, examples of which are the houses around the main square which is also home to its fountain built in 1551. Includes Breakfast, Dinner

DAY 6 : Povoa de Varzim - Santiago de Compostela.

Today we travel in to North-West Spain for a breathtaking adventure into this fascinating site, the culmination of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route. Soak up the atmosphere of this important religious and historical icon. Includes Breakfast, Dinner

DAY 7 : Povoa de Varzim - Ponte de Lima - Peneda Geres.

Today enjoy a full day tour exploring further, the beauty of northern Portugal. Your first stop is Ponte de Lima, so called because of the medieval bridge that crosses over the Lima river that runs alongside the town. Next it is on to Paneda Geres, the only National Park in Portugal which is home to many at risk flora and fauna which have disappeared from most other parts of the country; it is also home to endangered species such as the wolf and the Royal Eagle. Includes Breakfast, Dinner

DAY 8 : Povoa de Varzim - Oporto.

After breakfast, you will be transferred to your ship for embarkation. Enjoy a welcome cocktail party and a chance to meet the crew. In the evening there will be an optional excursion to see Oporto by night. Includes Breakfast, Dinner

DAY 9 : Porto.

After breakfast, there will be an optional guided tour of medieval Porto, Portugal's second largest city. Venture the steep, winding lanes of the town, edged by grand archways and magnificent churches, before travelling to Vila Nova de Gaia. Visit one of the producers of the port wine that the region is famous for, followed by wine tasting. Enjoy a free afternoon to discover Porto at leisure. After dinner, there will be a folk evening on board. Includes Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 10 : Porto - Régua.

The morning is at leisure or perhaps take the optional excursion to Guimarães. The birthplace of Afonso Henriques, the first independent king of Portugal. Guimarães is renowned for its historical treasures including many museums. Return on board and cruise to Régua and pass through the gigantic lock at Carrapatello. Includes Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 11 : Régua - Vega de Teron.

This morning, enjoy an optional excursion to Vila Real for a visit to the beautiful manor and gardens of Solar de Mateus. In the afternoon, rejoin your ship in Pinhão, the geographical centre of the demarcated port wine making region. Later, your ship continues cruising amidst the steep, terraced vineyards that line the banks of the river, en route to Vega de Teron. Enjoy a flamenco evening on board. Includes Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 12 : Barca d'Alva.

After breakfast, there is a full day optional excursion to the Spanish city of Salamanca, home to one of the oldest universities in the world. The city has been well-preserved and has beautiful stone-built noblemen's houses, convents and palaces scattered among the faculty buildings. The architecture reflects its Roman, Arabic and Christian past, and it is also said to have the most impressive town square in the whole of Spain. Includes Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 13 : Barca d'Alva - Ferradosa - Pinhão.

Continue your journey through the stunning countryside of the Douro Valley, arriving in Ferradosa after lunch. There is an optional excursion in the afternoon that takes you through vineyards where grapes are grown for the production of local wines before heading to a Quinta to taste Port wine. Rejoin the ship in Pinhão before your Gala evening tonight. Includes Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 14 : Pinhão - Porto.

This morning, there is an optional excursion to the ancient town of Lamego, 12km from the banks of the Douro. This includes a visit to the Nossa Senhora dos Remedios sanctuary, 600 metres above the town, the medieval castle, the church of Almacave with its azulejo lined walls and gilded woodwork on the altars, and the Cathedral. After lunch on board, the ship continues its journey to Porto. Tonight, there is a fado evening on board, where you can hear the traditional songs of Lisbon. Includes Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 15 : Porto - UK.

After breakfast, disembark your ship and transfer to the airport for your flight to the UK, or extend your stay in Porto with 2 nights at the Hotel Teatro or 7 nights at the Axis Ofir situated against a long sandy beach near the Northern Littoral Natural Park. Includes Breakfast
